Drug & Alcohol Rehab for Veterans in Northern California

COMPASSION & EMPATHY IN HOMELIKE COMFORT AT OUR ALCOHOl & DRUG REHAB

Addiction Treatment for Veterans at Buddy's Ranch

Buddy’s Ranch is a residential drug and alcohol rehab in Yuba City, California, with separate homes for men and women. We work with veterans who are ready to get sober and need a program that understands how veterans actually get into treatment.
This page is about addiction rehab and the mental health care that so often goes with it. If you are looking for physical rehabilitation for a service-connected injury, that is not what we provide. If alcohol or drugs are the problem, you are in the right place.
Our veteran program combines evidence-based and holistic care with practical help for the things veterans tell us matter most: VA benefits, disability claims, housing, and transportation. Every client stays in a small, homelike setting of six beds per house, and most stays run 30 to 180 days based on individual need.

A SUPPORT SYSTEM YOU CAN LEAN ON

Your Veteran Liaison: Someone Who Knows the VA Process

Getting into treatment through the VA is confusing, and nobody expects you to know how it works. Our veteran liaison, Zachary Goff, has helped veterans through every version of the process and knows what to say, who to call, and what to expect.

No two veterans take the same path. Someone who has been through a VA program before faces a different process than someone brand new to the VA. Your liaison looks at your situation and finds the easiest route to a community care referral. Sometimes that referral leads to Buddy’s Ranch. Sometimes it leads somewhere else. Either way, you get honest guidance.

Your liaison can help you with:

  • Understanding the VA community care process and what to ask for
  • Knowing what to say when you contact your VA provider
  • Veteran-specific needs such as disability claims
  • Long-term housing coordination, including the HUD-VASH program for homeless veterans
  • Planning what comes after treatment

How VA Community Care for Rehab Works

Most veterans who reach out to us have not yet heard of community care, and that is completely normal. Here is the general path. The details vary by veteran, and your liaison will help you with yours.

  1. Contact your VA provider. Ask about requesting a community care consult for substance use treatment.
  2. Complete the VA’s screening. The VA will screen you and review its own options first.
  3. Wait for the consult decision. Approvals can take time, sometimes up to two months, so starting early matters.
  4. Receive your authorization. When a community care consult is approved, the VA typically authorizes 45 days of inpatient treatment.
  5. Choose your program. Your liaison helps you understand where your authorization can be used and coordinates next steps with you.

You do not need to figure out all of this before you call. Reach out to us at any point and we will help you work out where you are in the process.

What the VA Can Cover at Buddy's Ranch

Many veterans ask whether the VA will pay for rehab, and whether that includes inpatient care. For veterans who qualify, VA community care can cover addiction treatment with a community provider, and approvals tend to be more flexible than commercial insurance.

  • Inpatient treatment: When a community care consult is approved, the VA typically authorizes 45 days.
  • Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP): The VA typically approves these levels of care for six months at a time. During that period, housing and groceries are provided so you can focus on the next step.
  • Longer stays: Because VA approvals can be extended, some veterans stay longer. One of our clients was in treatment through the VA for 10 months.
  • Full continuum of care: Approval at one level can lead to the next, from detox and residential care to outpatient.

Coverage depends on your eligibility, your VA provider, and your authorization. Your veteran liaison can explain what applies to you. We also accept most major commercial insurance, including TRICARE, if you would rather go that route.

Treatment That Understands Veteran Experience

PTSD and addiction. Many veterans use alcohol or drugs to cope with post-traumatic stress. We treat both at once through dual diagnosis care and PTSD treatment, so one is not left untreated while the other is addressed.

Military sexual trauma (MST). MST affects both men and women who served. We provide a place to begin healing from it with trauma-informed care, in separate men’s and women’s homes.

Therapies we use: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing, medically assisted treatment, mindfulness and meditation, adventure therapy, and individual, group, and family therapy.

Transportation. Getting to treatment is a real barrier. Ask your admissions contact or liaison about travel and transportation options when you call.
